If you stare into the Abyss long enough, it
starts to stare back into you.
Dark Aether is a supplement for Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu RPG.
It is set in the distant future. Untold millennia ago, Man existed on one
lone planet (which has long since been forgotten) on the outer edge of
the galaxy. From this planet Mankind spread slowly to the stars. The Sphere
of Man spreading more and more until it encompassed most of the galaxy
with small pockets dispersed throughout the universe. Man encountered many
strange, dark races and destroyed many that opposed them only then to be
decimated by still another race. Like all civilizations it went through
periods of vigor and periods of decadence and decay. Expanding and contracting
and expanding again, fragmenting through long dark ages, coalescing for
a time then exploding apart again. Until the galaxy is filled with small
isolated fragments of mankind, the rotting bits and pieces of a corpse
long buried and forgotten.
For the sake of brevity (or laziness) and so as not to step on the toes
of Chaosium, I am not including all of the Call of Cthulhu
game here. I am just showing the adjustments I have made to the existing
rules and the original material I have created for the purpose of this
supplement. So if you like what I've done and want to play it, you'll just
have to go out and get yourself a copy of Call of Cthulhu (assuming you don't already have one, which most of you probably do, otherwise you wouldn't be here).
Character Generation should be the first place you should go.
